"Teaching Children About Child Abuse"

Did you know that in the program section of the regulations there is a requirement to provide developmentally appropriate information to the children in your care which will enable them to protect themselves from child abuse and maltreatment? As a day care provider do you know what your other responsibilities are regarding abuse and maltreatment? This course will answer those questions.

The goal of this course is become more aware of a day care provider’s responsibilities regarding child abuse and maltreatment. To do this, participants will

• 1. Identify the primary purpose of reporting child abuse and maltreatment.
• 2. Apply information about child abuse and maltreatment to four scenarios.
• 3. Write an observation using the Observe—Reflect—Act process

This course provides training in the following New York State Office of Children and Family Services regulation areas: ½ hour in (6) Child Abuse and Maltreatment Identification and Prevention, ½ hour in (8) Statutes and Regulations Pertaining to Child Abuse and Maltreatment, and 1 hour in (3) Child Day Care Program Development. You will answer 9 multiple choice questions worth one point each, answer 6 questions worth 1 point each after reading two short scenarios, and complete two observation activities—one worth 3 points and one worth 10 points, for a total of 34 points.

If your score is 80% or higher, your answer page, with comments, will be mailed or emailed to you within one week of its receipt by Training Unlimited. Your certificate will be mailed the same day your course is corrected.

If you receive a grade less than 80%, you will receive a phone call, a letter, or an email and have the opportunity to correct your work. A certificate will then be mailed to you indicating you have passed the course. Your course must be corrected and your score must reach 80% to receive a certificate.

Call for more information if you need this service or if your course will need to be corrected immediately. There is an additional $20 charge for courses that must be graded within 24 hours of submission. This charge includes emailing certificates, immediately upon grading, to a licensor or registrar.
